The trailer for Rihanna's first big film, Battleship, was released today (see below), but the pop star barely features in it.

The film is about an alien invasion at sea and stars Liam Neeson and Taylor Kitsch.

In the movie Rihanna will play an FBI espionage agent who goes along with the navy to defeat the alien race attacking Earth. You can spot the singer at the 1.45 mark on the trailer below.

Speaking to MTV last year, the singer said:

Working with [director] Peter Berg is unbelievable. I love doing movies now. It's something I want to do more of. I just want to pick films that are wise for me and roles that I can pull off, nothing that is too big for me.

Peter Berg has previously directed Hancock starring Will Smith and The Kingdom with Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Garner.

The part is technically the singer's second foray into acting, after she appeared in Bring It On: All Or Nothing, alongside Heroes actress Hayden Panettiere and Beyonce's sister, Solange Knowles. The film was a second follow-up to the Kirsten Dunst cheerleader film of 2000.

Battleship is due for release in the UK on May 18, 2012.
