Rihanna sues former accountants for tens of millions of dollars
Singer also blames Berdon LLP for 'shoddy bookeeping' and an ongoing audit by the IRS
According to the Associated Press, the singer's lawsuit, which was filed in federal court in Manhattan yesterday (July 5), is seeking unspecified damages against New York-based Berdon LLP and two accountants after they allegedly cost her multiple millions in revenue.
The singer has accused the company of shoddy bookkeeping, a failure to recommend she trim expenses when a 2009 tour was losing money and the cost of dealing with an ongoing audit by the US tax office Internal Revenue Service.
The problems stem from the singer's 2009 'Last Girl On Earth' tour, which incurred a significant loss, despite healthy ticket sales. Rihanna also says Berdon LLP paid her only 6% of the tour's revenues and kept 22% for themselves.
The lawsuit also blames Berdon LLP for her 2009 purchase of a new home, saying competent business managers would have told her she could not afford to pay the $6.9 million she spent on the Los Angeles home as her tour was losing money.
A Berdon LLP spokeswoman said the company had no immediate comment.
Rihanna headlines this weekend's Wireless Festival in London's Hyde Park.
