Singer invites fans to make clip for new single

Robbie Williams has launched a contest for budding video directors to make a clip for his next single ’The 80s’.

will choose from seven independent filmmakers entries. The winner will receive a prize of £7,500 and a chance to be broadcast.

The former Take That member said: “Rudebox was done in a guerrilla way, no plan of action, it just evolved into what it is naturally.

“That’s what I like about film today and why I wanted to do this project and competition.”

He said that the idea of making the promos came from modern technology. “Just like in music today you can create a masterpiece out of an iBook and some digital footage, as much as you can in a fancy studio.

“I’m very excited to see what the film-makers can come up with.”

will judge the competition along with director Lord Puttenham and Jonathan Ross.

The winning film will be revealed at a special screening in November.
’Rudebox’ is set to be released on October 23.
