Robbie Williams' mum confirms his engagement to Ayda Field
Wedding could take place in the 'not-too-distant future', according to Jan Williams
Robbie Williams' mum Jan has confirmed that he has proposed to his US actress partner Ayda Field.
Williams and Field were rumoured to be tying the knot after they spoke about it on Australian radio station 2Day FM earlier today (November 27), although the singer's management stressed that they had been joking during the conversation.
However, Jan Williams has now confirmed that the couple – who have been together for three years – are to wed. She told BBC Radio 5 live that Williams told her he was planning to propose about a week ago.
"He's wanted to do something different and she's a lovely girl and I'm really pleased for them," Jan Williams explained, adding: "I've got a daughter-in-law, I've always wanted a daughter-in-law!"
She didn't confirm whether the couple's on-air conversation was the actual proposal or whether Williams had previously asked Field to marry him in private.
Speaking about when she thought the couple would marry, Williams admitted a ceremony could take place sooner rather than later.
"I don't think it will be that far in the too-distant future, but that's all I'm going to say on that," she explained.
Williams added that her son has already chosen a ring for Field.
