The pair will square off in 'Grudge Match', a film about retired boxers returning to the ring
Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone are to square off in a new boxing movie.
The veteran actors have signed up for Grudge Match, a comedy about a pair of retired boxers who are persuaded to return to the ring. Comedian Kevin Hart, best known for the Scary Movies, will play the promoter who pits them against each other.
Both De Niro and Stallone are famous for showing off their fighting skills on screen. De Niro won an Oscar for his portrayal of boxing champion Jake LaMotta in 1980’s Raging Bull, while Stallone has played fictional brawler Rocky Balboa in six films, the most recent coming in 2006.
According to Deadline, Grudge Match will be helmed by director Peter Segal, whose previous movies include Nutty Professor II and Get Smart. The film’s script has been written by Entourage creator Doug Ellin.
Following the success of The Expendables, Stallone is enjoying a late career revival. He is set to appear again with Arnold Schwarzenegger in a new action movie called The Tomb, which is due next year (2013). Meanwhile, De Niro has several films coming up, including potential Oscar contender The Silver Linings Playbook and Killing Season, a thriller that co-stars John Travolta.
