Rod Stewart has said he grew tired of sex in his 20s as he was "bored of not feeling affectionate towards girls".

The 'Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?' singer, whose book Rod Stewart: The Autobiography is released on October 11, has spoken candidly about his sex life in an interview with the Daily Mail and gave a revealing insight into his past exploits.

Stewart said: "Women literally threw themselves at The Faces ’cos we were cute and we were British. Me and Ronnie just got tired of sex after a while, and we were only in our early 20s. Come to think of it, we always got more fun out of each other, me and Ronnie, than we did with the girls we were with."

He continued:

I got bored of not feeling affectionate towards girls. I wanted to be in love. I wanted something special. After a while it was sad, it was actually sad. I remember being at a hotel in Cannes and we were shagging ourselves rotten and I said 'This is fucking depressing'.

.
The singer also spoke about drugs and said he stopped himself from letting substances get out of hand as he didn't want to become "a Keith Richards, or worse".

"I was incredibly lucky there," he admits. "I did the drug thing, but never on a daily basis, and never to the point where it was out of control. It was only ever purely social: the occasional sniff sniff at a party. I stopped more than 10 years ago and yes, it was foolish. I was lucky."

Rod Stewart: The Autobiography by Rod Stewart is released on October 11.
