TOMORROW COMES TODAY

While Doves hold onto to number one on the album chart...

Ex BOYZONE frontman RONAN KEATING has debuted at the top of the UK charts today (May 12) with new single ‘IF TOMORROW NEVER COMES’, a cover of US star GARTH BROOKS track.

The single replaces Australian soap actress Holly Valance who lasted only a week at number one with ‘Kiss Kiss. She, though, stays at two, one place higher than the next new entry from ex-Steps duo H & Claire with ‘DJ’. They win the Steps battle as their former bandmate Faye Tozer sees her new single ‘Someone Like You’, a duet with opera-lite singer Russell Watson, enter at 10. The only other new entry on the top ten comes from Nigel & Marvin at five with ‘Follow Da Leader’.

Just outside the ten, the late R‘n’B singer Aaliyah scores another posthumous hot entering at 12 with ‘Roch The Boat’, while UK rock hopes Hundred Reasons see their single ‘Silver’ enter at 15. Irish girl group Bellefire see their Bono-sanctioned cover of U2’s ‘All I Want Is You’ go in at 18.

Indie favourites Cooper Temple Clause just miss out on the top 20, entering at 22 with ‘Who Needs Enemies’ while The Hives move in at 24 with ‘Main Offender’. The only other new entry on the top 40 comes from christian metallers POD at 36 with ‘Youth Of The Nation’.

Meanwhile, Doves remain at number one for a second week on the album chart with their second album ‘The Last Broadcast’ seeing off a resurgent Enrique Iglesias who moves from eight to two with ‘Escape’. The Jam’s greatest hits set ‘The Sound Of…’ enters at three. There are no other brand new entries on the top ten, though Mary J Blige, Kosheen and Kylie Minogue are strong re-entries.
