Roots have begun work on their new album – 'DESERT SESSIONS'-style.
When planning their next album, already titled ‘Tipping Point’, they decided to go back to basics and host a series of jam sessions at their studio in Philadelphia to create a more homemade recording environment.
Drummer and solo artists Ahmir '?uestlove' Thompson told Billboard: "We all came in with different ideas, so we decided to put a bunch of people together and see what happens. As a result, we’ve already gotten a lot of material at an alarming rate."
He continued: "Normally this is the process for us. We used to jam like this in my living room all the time. So we decided to do a recreation of my living room in the studio. We also invited people from outside the group to get other energies."
The star-studded line-up of contributors has already included soul star Jill Scott, Mercury nominees Floetry, plus Martin Luther, K-OS and Glenn Lewis.
The project follows the success of Queens Of The Stone Agefrontman Josh Homme’s ‘Desert Sessions 9&10’ – the project which unites a group of disparate musicians in the desert for one week to make a record.
'Tipping Point', the follow-up to 2002’s acclaimed 'Phrenology', is slated for release in April 2004.
