Rufus Wainwright confirms he will marry this week

The singer-songwriter will wed Jorn Weisbrodt in Montauk on Thursday

Rufus Wainwright has confirmed that he will marry his long-term partner Jorn Weisbrodt on Thursday (August 23) at a ceremony in Montauk, New York.

The singer-songwriter and Weisbrodt were engaged in November 2010 and had their first child, Viva Katherine Wainwright Cohen, in February of last year. Cohen’s birth mother is Lorca Cohen, daughter of the legendary Leonard Cohen.

Earlier this summer Rufus Wainwright revealed that he is writing a musical film “loosely based” on his own life. He explained that the film, which is tentatively titled The Great White Way, will feature a number of tracks from his back catalogue.

Speaking to Rolling Stone about the plans for the musical biopic, he said: “We’re really early in that process. It’s loosely based on my life – very, very loose… It stems from some of my past glories and tragic endings, but it’s by no means a biography of me or anything.”

Rufus Wainwright released his latest album ‘Out Of The Game’ in April. The record featured cameos from Martha Wainwright, Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner, Sean Lennon, Wilco‘s Nels Cline and Miike Snow‘s Andrew Wyatt, and was produced by Mark Ronson.

Wainwright tours the UK in support of ‘Out Of The Game’ later this year, playing a total of 10 shows. The shows start at Oxford New Theatre on November 16 and finish at Glasgow Academy on December 14.
