Ryan Adams has recorded a cover of Iron Maiden 'Wasted Years' .

The alt-rocker's version of the metal band's track is currently streaming on Rolling Stone. The song, which originally featured on Iron Maiden's 1986 album 'Somewhere In Time', will feature on the soundtrack to the new series of US TV show Californication. Adams previously recorded an unreleased version of the track for a session with BBC Radio 2.

The show, which stars former X-Files actor David Duchovny, has asked a number of artists to record cover versions of iconic tracks for its sixth season, with Marilyn Manson set to take on Depeche Mode's 'Personal Jesus' and Lissie providing her own rendition of Metalica's 'Nothing Else Matters'. You can see the full tracklisting at the bottom of the page.

In October last year it was reported that Adams, who released his 13th studio album 'Ashes & Fire' in 2011, is seemingly working on an unlikely collaboration with Deadmau5. He is also set to record an album with his wife Mandy Moore. The couple, who married in March 2009, will work together on Moore's new studio album, which is due out later this year.

Speaking about her plans for her seventh studio album, Moore said: "I'm probably going to work with my husband on this album. I'm not sure necessarily in what capacity, but we've been writing a little bit together. He has a studio, so I definitely want to make my record there."

The tracklisting for the soundtrack to the new season of Californication, which is released on January 15, is as follows:

1. Steve Jones – 'Suffragette City'
2. Marilyn Manson – 'Personal Jesus'
3. The Blind Pets – 'Fever'
4. Johnny Thunders – 'You Can't Put Your Arms Round a Memory'
5. Lissie – 'Nothing Else Matters'
6. Ryan Adams – 'Wasted Years'
7. Warren Zevon – 'For My Next Trick, I'll Need a Volunteer'
8. Tim Minchin – 'So Long'
9. Hi Ho Silver Oh ft. Leslie Stevens – 'Time To Move On'
10. Joe Walsh – 'Funk 50'
11. The Litter – 'Action Woman'
12. Mark Lanegan- 'Strange Religion'
13. The Soundtrack of Our Lives – 'What's Your Story'
14. Beth Hart – 'My California'
