Savages' Jehnny Beth has hit out at the state of the UK's small venues, calling for the music industry to support its grassroots.

Writing on her Tumblr, the singer quoted her tour manager Andy Inglis, who regularly lectures on the subject of the live music industry, and argues that in the wake of a lack of government funding to small music venues it is the responsibility of the wealthier end of the music industry to support the places artists play in when they are starting out.

"The production and customer service standards of small venues in the UK have the world’s worst reputation among touring musicians - we secretly call it the TOILET TOUR!," she writes. "There are many great small rooms in this country who do great work with limited resources, and they should be applauded and supported. There are also great bands, great musicians and great audiences who love music and deserve the best. It definitely seems a shame that when you ask musicians around the world about the touring conditions in the UK, backstage, PA system quality… you don’t get a more positive response."

She concludes: "The music industry can definitely affect a change. Labels, managers, big promoters, booking agents, artists and bigger live venues can group together, reinvest their money, and start to repair the UK’s reputation in live music." Read the post in full here.

Savages' debut album 'Silence Yourself', which was released in may, was nominated for this years' Mercury Prize. It will compete against albums by David Bowie, Arctic Monkeys, Jake Bugg and Disclosur. The winner will announced in a ceremony in central London on October 30.

Savages are set to embark on a UK headline tour this November. Support for all the dates will come from Australian band A Dead Forest Index.

Savages will play:

Brighton Concorde 2 (November 5)
London Forum (6)
Bristol Trinity (7)
Manchester Ritz (9)
Glasgow Classic Grand (10)
Leeds Vox (11)
