Scissor Sisters do their bit for the homeless

Scissors Sisters have given a Scottish homeless charity a surprise Christmas present.

The New Yorkers personally chose to donate a chunk of their sold-out UK arena tour profits to the Simon Centre in Glasgow.

The group had pledged to hand over a slice of the money earned from their sell-out gigs to 17 charities across the UK, reports the Daily Record. And one of the beneficiaries were the Simon Centre, where volunteers go out on to the streets of the city twice a week to offer soup, sandwiches and comfort to the homeless.

They also run Cafe Simon in the city's Partick area where people can drop in to warm up in the winter.

The charity was given £1,300 by the million-selling group. Their fundraising manager, Sarah Hunter, said: "Obviously we were over the moon that such a big band were using their influence to raise money. It will be enough to run our soup kitchen for a month."

VIP guests at the shows who normally got free tickets were asked to donate up to £15 to the fund, which totalled £24,000.
