Veteran musician and spoken word agit-poet GIL SCOTT-HERON has been sentenced to one to three years in prison by a NEW YORK court.

Scott-Heron had failed to appear at a hearing on October 1 tied to a drug rehabilitation program he was due to enter. The program was part of a plea bargain reached in an earlier drug possession charge, Billboard reports. That missed date, as well as failure to enter the treatment program, resulted in his jail sentence on Monday (October 29).

Heron, reputedly a crack addict, was arrested at his New York home on Monday. It is unclear exactly where he will serve the term.
