John Lydon revives Country Life butter sales

Unlikely dairy spokesman proves a hit

Sex Pistols' John Lydon has apparently helped to revive sales of the butter brand Country Life.

The punk frontman has been appearing in TV adverts for its makers Dairy Crest, who have claimed that the brand’s sales have risen by 83 per cent, reports Reuters.

Lyndon has appeared in a series of adverts with the slogan "It’s all about great butter."

The advert received heavy criticism from some fans - for Lydon apparently selling out his punk values.

It's utterly-butterly grotesque! I was there in '76, and this wasn't where Punk was supposed to end up! Lydon's a joke and always has been, but this is just embarrassing.

'Putting the c*nt back into Countrylife' - that would be a much better slogan..

Here in america we have "Country Crock" a butter substitute . Is he hawking real or fake butter .. I always felt the Crock in country crock spoke loudly on it's taste and what it doe's to toast. Makes it taste like soggy butter. Also FABIO is the spokesman over in the U.S of A for country crock so.. these two have something in common now. perhaps these two should team up for next year's super bowl ad's

Seeing that John Lydon has long (mid 1980s, at best, i.e. "Album") been past his sell-by date musicwise, he should stick to advertising for Brit butter for UK punters. I'd gladly leave him at that myself.
