Sex Pistols' John Lydon: 'Malcolm McLaren's funeral was undignified'

But Public Image Ltd man has some kinder words for Lady GaGa

John Lydon has claimed that the funeral of the Sex Pistols' former manager Malcolm McClaren was "a real letdown".

Lydon, who did not attend the April 22 service, said it "sounded dreadful" and "not dignified" in an interview with The Guardian.

The singer appeared to base his opinions on reports from Bob Geldof, who was among the mourners at London's Highgate Cemetery.

"Bob Geldof came to see PiL in Canada and he told me. He said he attended the funeral and the wake was full of wannabes - and I bet he was one of them himself!" Lydon remarked.

Asked whether he missed his former manager, Lydon continued: "Malcolm McClaren didn't inspire. He took credit for things he didn't do. So fuck him. I'm not great at dealing with death."

The comments appeared to contradict a statement released by Lydon shortly after McClaren's death, which saw him remark: "Above all else he was an entertainer and I will miss him, and so should you."

However, the Lydon reserved kinder words for Lady Gaga, describing her as "marvellous".

"I think 'Paparazzi' was one of the best things last year. She's comic and clever. That bubble dress was a celebration of life," he said.

Lydon is due to kick off a six-date UK tour with Public Image Ltd at London O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire on Monday (July 19).

Earlier this week, he claimed his work on the Country Life butter advertising campaigns was paying for the jaunt and recording sessions.
