FLEADH '98 ANNOUNCES LONDON LINE-UP AND GLOBAL TOUR
Simple Minds, SINEAD O'CONNOR (pictured) and Shane MacGowan & The Popes lead the artists confirmed to appear at the ninth annual Fleadh festival, which this year has been renamed the Guinness Fleadh under the sponsorship of the brewing giant.

The day-long celebration of Irish and Celtic music and culture takes place at London's Finsbury Park on Saturday, June 6. Also appearing on the event's two stages are THE CORRS, WORLD PARTY, DR JOHN, MIKE SCOTT, ALTAN, JOHN MARTYN, ROBERT FORSTER, RON SEXSMITH, CAPERCAILLIE, MARY COUGHLAN, PAUL BRADY, THE BOOTLEG BEATLES, DAVID GRAY, THE OYSTER BAND, ANAM, GHOSTLAND and EQUATION. The site also offers a market, a variety of food stalls, entertainments and, of course, more than adequate bar facilities.

Organisers the Mean Fiddler Organisation and sponsors Guinness plan to take the Fleadh to a global audience this year with shows in three US cities - New York (June 13-14), Chicago (20) and an as-yet unspecified venue in the San Francisco area (27). The New York event is expected to have a total of 60 acts on different stages over the two days.

Arrangements are also underway for Fleadh events in Germany and a tour of New Zealand and Australia for February/March 1999 with shows in Auckland, Sydney and Melbourne.

Tickets for the London Fleadh go onsale from March 25 costing (UK)28.00 pounds and can be bought in person at any Mean Fiddler venue. Telephone sales can be arranged on the NME 24-hour Ticketline on 0870-1212-500. Tickets can be bought by post costing (UK)28.50 pounds each by sending cheques or postal orders (no cash) payable to "Windfield Promotions Ltd" to Fleadh 1998, PO Box 1707, London NW10 4LW enclosing SAE and daytime telephone number. Add (UK)3.50 pounds to cover registered post on orders of four tickets or more, allowing 28 days for delivery.
