She And Him's Zooey Deschanel directs video for 'I Could've Been Your Girl' - watch

The duo's new album 'Volume 3' was released earlier this month

She And Him have unveiled the video for their new single, 'I Could've Been Your Girl'.

Of the video, Deschanel has said: "After seven years and four albums with She & Him, I figured it was about time I took a crack at making a video for a song I wrote. The process was so much fun, and gave me a chance to give a nod to some of my favorite '60s musicals." The single is due for release on July 15.

The track is taken from the band's fourth album, 'Volume 3', which is out now. The LP follows their similarly titled 2008 debut, 'Volume 1', and 2010's 'Volume 2', as well as their festive album 'A Very She And Him Christmas', which was released in 2011. 'Volume 3' was produced by M Ward, and sees guest appearances from Mike Watt, Tilly and the Wall, Pierre de Reeder of Rilo Kiley and Devotchka's Tom Hagerman.

The album features covers of Blondie's 'Sunday Girl', as well as Ellie Greenwich's 'Baby' and 1950s classic 'Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me' and was recorded in New York, Los Angeles and Portland.

Zooey Deschanel is currently starring in US sitcom, New Girl, but is also set to play country music legend Loretta Lynn on Broadway. Deschanel will appear as the singer in a stage production of the 1980 film Coal Miner's Daughter, which originally saw Sissy Spacek take on the role of Lynn with the late Levon Helm of The Band playing her father.
