MARQUEE DOOMED!
The main marquee at the [b]Ross-On-Wye International Festival[/b] is found to be in danger of collapse...
Shed Seven were forced to cancel an appearance at the ROSS-ON-WYE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL after its main marquee was found in danger of collapse.
The band were booked to appear in the riverside festival's 4,000-capacity main marquee last Saturday night (August 19). However, they were phoned and told the gig was cancelled the same morning.
A crew clearing the stage following Van Morrison's concert on Friday evening (August 18) heard a loud crack above them, and it was discovered a central support beam in the marquee at the back of the stage area had buckled.
A spokeswoman for the festival's promoters told nme.com: "It was unfortunate, but we couldn't go ahead with the concert for safety reasons. Fortunately we managed to get hold of them before they'd set off, and they were OK about it. We managed to get the word around on local radio stations that they weren't coming, so not many turned up disappointed.
"Structural engineers and a crew worked through the night with a crane to fix the problem, and we were back in business for Sunday."
She said promoters would be launching an investigation into what caused the structural damage.
Shed Seven's one-off gig was scheduled as a warm-up to the Reading and Leeds Carling festivals, which take place this forthcoming weekend (August 25-28).
Other bands confirmed to play at this year's Ross-On-Wye Festival include Super Furry Animals (August 23) and Toploader (24).
