Sigur Rós have revealed that they are currently working on a new album to be released this year.

The Icelandic band announced the news during an 'IAmA' chat on social networking site Reddit, where users could log-on and ask the band questions from 3pm EST yesterday (January 24).

The news broke after one user asked when they could expect their next album. The band responded by saying: “This year. We are writing these answers from the studio in Los Angeles right now!”

Sigur Rós’ latest album 'Valtari' was released in May last year making this upcoming album the band’s seventh. It's currently being referring to it as #SR7 by the band but it's unclear if this is only being used until the album gets an official title.

A teaser of one of the tracks off the new album has also been released to promote their upcoming UK tour and it appears to be a snippet of a studio version of 'Brennisteinn', which they debuted last year at a gig in their native Iceland. You can listen to it below.

Frontman Jonsi also revealed that he might be releasing another solo album after a user asked him if this was a possibility. The vocalist, who released his debut solo album 'Go' in 2010, said: "Yes, maybe, would be fun…"

Sigur Rós’ UK tour starts in Glasgow on March 2 and includes seven dates in all. They have also recently been confirmed to play Coachella this year alongside headline acts the Stone Roses, Blur, Phoenix and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
