ON A NIGHT LIKE THIS...

The Australia Record Industry Association gives them five awards each - but The Vines get only one...

and SILVERCHAIR swept the board at the AUSTRALIA RECORD INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION AWARDS (ARIAs), taking ten awards between them at the SYDNEY SUPERDROME last night (October 15).

However, failed to repeat their international success on home soil, taking just one award - Best New Artist Single for 'Get Free' - and being snubbed for four others. Despite the lack of success, frontman Craig Nicholls said it was "encouraging" to get any recognition at all in Australia.

The 16th annual ARIAs included performances from Holly Valance, Silverchair and Album Of The Year recipient, country artist Kasey Chambers. Kelly Osbourne, Sir Bob Geldof, Natalie Imbruglia and wildlife legend Steve Irwin were also on hand to present awards.

Highest Selling Album: Kylie Minogue - 'Fever'
Highest Selling Single: Kylie Minogue - 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head'
Best Group: Silverchair - 'Diorama'
Best New Artist Single: - 'Get Free'
Best Female Artist: Kasey Chambers
Best Male Artist: Alex Lloyd
Best Pop Release: Kylie Minogue - 'Fever'
Best Rock Album: Silverchair - 'Diorama'
Producer Of The Year: Co-producer Daniel Johns, Silverchair - 'Diorama'
Best Cover Art: Silverchair - 'Diorama'
