Simple Minds announce Edinburgh Castle show Simple Minds Tickets

Band set to play the 'New Gold Dream' album in its entirety

Simple Minds have announced a one-off show at Edinburgh Castle next July - where they will play a classic album of theirs in full.

'30 Years Live' takes place on July 18, and is set to be filmed for a DVD release.

Frontman Jim Kerr revealed the gig would see the band play 1982's album 'New Gold Dream' in its entirety.

"To play at Edinburgh Castle is more than a dream come true," he said. "Particularly since we have been looking for a sensational backdrop in which to film and record this tour where we play our landmark album 'New Gold Dream' in its entirety."

Tickets for the gig go on sale at 9am (GMT) on December 12.

I've gotta confess, I've rediscovered Simple Minds in recent years. While they did go off the boil after a while (Street Fighting Years is crap, particularly the execrable 'Belfast Child' -what is the obssession of weggies with belfast?!) compare the early Minds stuff with U2, and it's clear that in the early years, the Minds were by far the more pioneering of the two bands.
