SEVEN YEAR ITCH SPLITS SKUNK

The angst-rockers call it a day after seven years and four million albums...

SEVEN YEAR ITCH SPLITS SKUNK
SKUNK ANANSIE have split, it was announced today (April 18).

The group, who formed seven years ago, will pursue various solo careers in music, photography and film.

The following statement was issued by their spokesperson on their behalf: "The multi platinum selling band Skunk Anansie have split up. The band decided that they had taken Skunk Anansie as far as they could and that now the time is right to pursue solo careers. This has been a mutual decision and the band remain the best of friends.

"Skunk Anansie formed in 1994 and released three hugely successful albums, 'Paranoid & Sunburnt' (1995), 'Stoosh' (1996) and 'Post Orgasmic Chill' (1999). In total they have sold four million albums worldwide and notched up eight hit singles.

Frontwoman Skin and guitarist Ace are both currently working on solo albums, bassist Cass is concentrating on careers in photography and music, while drummer Mark has acted in a short film and also continues to pursue music."

The band have long made their intention to concentrate on other projects clear, with Cass telling NME.COM towards the end of last year that the band intended to take this year off to pursue their outside interests.

As previously reported, Skin has been recording new songs on her own since September, and was writing in France. She described the material as focusing on "good lyrics and melodies." Her solo album is slated for release early in 2002.
