Campaigners in Stoke-on-Trent have handed in a petition to have statues of former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash and Motorhead frontman Lemmy erected in the city.

Slash was born in London but lived in Stoke until he was six years old, while Lemmy was born and raised in nearby Burslem.

According to Thisisstaffordshire.co.uk, a petition to get statues of both men erected has gathered 318 signatures so far and has been presented to the city council’s economic development overview and scrutiny committee.

A spokesman for the campaigners has written to the committee, saying: "We firmly believe it could be a landmark that is really quite individual and exclusive to the area, and would definitely be a popular attraction for fans of rock music worldwide."

A source for the committee has said it would gladly work with campaigners, but that it was unlikely any funding for the project would be available.
