Slayer have drafted in former drummer Paul Bostaph to replace Dave Lombardo.

Original drummer Lombardo was axed over a contract dispute in February (2013) - the third time he's exited the thrash metal band since they formed in 1981.

Bostaph first replaced Lombardo in 1992 and played with Slayer for most of the following decade before the original drummer returned to the fold. "We spent a very intense 10 years of our lives together, had a lot of fun, made a lot of great music, so for me, this feels like coming home," Bostaph said in a statement.

Last month (May) Slayer lost another founding member, Jeff Hanneman, who passed away from liver failure. However, the band are pressing on with dates across Europe and South America and will play the Bloodstock Open Air festival in Derby on August 11.

Adding to the band's statement, bassist Tom Araya added: "Paul's a great drummer and a good friend, and we're very happy that he's decided to rejoin the band. We're still pretty numb from the loss of Jeff, but we don't want to disappoint our European and South American fans, and we need to begin moving forward… having Paul back in the band makes that a whole lot easier."
