Slipknot's Michael Shawn "Clown" Crahan is putting together a special book of artwork created by the band's fans.

The collection entitled 'Maggot Bible' is set to feature over 1,000 works of art submitted by the metal group's following.

Crahan is appealing to fans to submit pieces for the book by post. "What I would like to create with you is a book that can bring these ideas together in a tangible way and at the same time, artistic form," he said.

"It will be something we can hold and carry around with us and use as a reference through the different circumstances of life. When you feel a certain way and you think you're alone, you can open this book and read stories, poems and glare at photos or other mediums of communication to help you breathe and realise you are not alone. You have never been alone."

The percussionist also revealed the inspiration behind the title of the book came from the band's fans.

He added: "When I came up with the name 'maggots' for our fans it was simply because I watched you all feed frantically off all of the art we created. Everything we did brought a frenzied reaction and beauty to the table."

His project comes after frontman Corey Taylor recently said the band are unlikely to head into the studio anytime soon following the death of bassist Paul Gray but they will be touring later this year.
