Corey Taylor: 'Slipknot's next album will be about Paul Gray'

Frontman says the band will produce a 'very melancholy' fifth album

Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor has said that the band's next studio album will be entirely inspired by their former bassist Paul Gray.

The band re-released their 10th anniversary edition of their second album 'Iowa' on Monday (October 31) and Taylor has said that though a return to the studio isn’t imminent, it will happen and when it does, the follow-up to 2008's 'All Hope Is Gone' will be inspired by Gray, who died of a suspected overdose last June.

He told Billboard about the prospect of a new Slipknot album: "We know that everything we do on that album is going to be about Paul. It's going to be very melancholy. It's going to be a more saddened form of rage when it does happen, and it'll be a whole path that we've never gone down before."

The singer added that he is "not as anxious to make a new album as maybe certain people in the band are. It just makes more sense to try and figure things out before we try to get into a studio. I don't want to risk losing what we've built because somebody's trying to prove a point."

Percussionist Shawn Crahan also said that a record is not close to happening yet, but that all the band are writing new material in any case.

He said:

There's no talk of a new record, but there's a lot of stuff that everybody's got. Everybody's got ideas and everybody's writing, but it won't happen until we get together as a band and have a big discussion about what it is we want to accomplish. We lost a very important piece of our enigma, and we're not going to get together and bust through it just to bust through it because everybody wants us to.

Slipknot were most recently in the UK to headline this summer's Sonisphere Festival.
