Doctor charged with manslaughter of Slipknot bassist Paul Gray

The doctor of Slipknot bass player Paul Gray has been charged with the manslaughter of him and seven other people.

Gray died of an accidental overdose in June 2010 and his doctor, Dr Daniel Baldi, is now set to face charges of involuntary manslaughter for allegedly prescribing high amounts of painkillers to people who later died.

It has been revealed that health authorities in Iowa recently closed down Baldi's clinic and have offered no explanation as to the reason why.

It is also confirmed that Baldi is facing administrative charges from the Iowa Board of Medicine, which could lead to suspension of his medical licence.

If Baldi is convicted of all the charges, he could face up to 16 years in jail. His lawyer Guy Cook, has called the charges "unprecedented", telling the Des Moines Register: "It is unprecedented to turn unfortunate deaths or medical results into a crime against a doctor."

Both Gray's widow Brenna and Slipknot percussionist Shawn Crahan are listed on the preliminary complaint filed in district court as among nine people interviewed in the investigation.

Slipknot are set to issue a statement later today (September 6) about the case.
