Slipknot have been announced as the third and final headliners of next summer's Download Festival.

The masked metal band will headline the festival on June 14 and join Rammstein and Iron Maiden in topping the bill. Speaking about the booking – which will be their second headline slot at the festival after their performance in 2009 – the band's Clown said: "We are extremely honoured to have been asked once again to headline the Download Festival. This most definitely will be an experience not to be missed. Every time we've played Download we have created memories.

"It's always good to have the church of the Knot, the altar of the Knot, giving the sermon of the Knot to the congregation of the Knot, the culture of the Knot. This summer cannot come soon enough. Partake in the imagination or don't bitch."

Meanwhile, Download Festival organiser Andy Copping said: "Slipknot's last appearance at Download has gone down in the festival's history as one of the best ever headline sets. God knows what they’ll have in store for 2013 but I'm looking forward to seeing how they'll top the last one."

Download Festival will take place from June 14-16 2013 at Donington Park. The festival was headlined by Metallica, Black Sabbath and The Prodigy in 2012, with the likes of Chase & Status, You Me At Six, Biffy Clyro, Soundgarden, Machine Head, Rise Against, Slash and Megadeth also performing across the weekend.

See Downloadfestival.com for more information about the festival.

Tickets for Download Festival will go onsale tomorrow (September 28) at 9am (BST). To check the availability of Download Festival tickets and get all the latest listings, go to NME.COM/TICKETS now, or call 0871 230 1094.
