Billy Corgan says Smashing Pumpkins won't release any new albums

Frontman says veterans will become 'a singles band'

frontman Billy Corgan says the band will not release any new albums in the future.

Corgan admitted that the negative reaction to 2007's comeback album 'Zeitgeist' is partly to blame.

He told The Chicago Tribune: "We're done with that ['Zeitgeist']. There is no point. People don't even listen to it all. They put it on their iPod, they drag over the two singles, and skip over the rest."

The frontman said that, despite not recording new albums, fans would still be able to hear new music from the band.

"Our primary function now is to be a singles band, that drives Pumpkins Inc through singles. We'll still be creative, but in a different form."

He added that the band would also stop touring traditional venues.

"We won't do shows like this anymore, where we try to draw a good crowd and balance the past with the present," he explained. "We'll go small and do exactly what we want to do and stop playing catalogue. We'll be like a new band that can't rely on old gimmicks. I'm not stupid. I want people to feel good about what we do."

Corgan went on to verbally attack people who accuse the of reforming for money.

"What bothers me is the notion that we're done," he said. "We didn't come back for the cash, we came back to be great again. It made me mad that people thought we're done, that we don't have a future. Get out. We don't want you. We've never been that band. That happy band. We picked up where we left off. We're not the retirement band playing our old hits."

Referring to the band's original split in 2000, Corgan lambasted former guitarist James Iha, saying: "The real story [behind the split] was Iha was driving me out of my mind. He was so negative. The guy literally drove me insane."

i wasn't even a fan of Smashing Pumpkins until i heard Zeitgeist, i suppose i still wouldn't call myself a fan but i enjoyed the album, but i can see where he is coming from albums aren't albums anymore, they're just a bunch of single tracks on a CD.

Guy's... Jimmy's drumming was worth the album alone. I think the back lash came from putting out more then one version of the album in order to sell more copies. My friend Kenny used to drum for them while Jimmy was out.. Still a great band and the last album was wicked

Billy Corgan really is a detestable cunt. How hard is it to understand what people want from a Smashing Pumpkins show? They want to hear the hits, Today, 1979 etc. not utter wank 30 minute self indulgent guitar solos and have Corgan berate them for not apreciating his art.If James Iha became increasingly negative I can only imagine it is because Billy Corgan treated him like shit. It is common knowledge the Smashing Pumpkins always were a Billy Corgan dictatorship. It is funny how he never mentioned this when he asked James Iha and D'arcy to be part of the reunion a couple of years ago though. Sounds like he's pissed off because Iha didn't want to be a part of it. Billy corgan is doing a brilliant job of losing all the fans his band ever had right now.

I'd be pissed off too if I were him! His U.S. tour was AMAZING. I went two nights last week and I was thoroughly impressed and fell madly back in love with the Pumpkins. I've always loved them but now it's like I've found a new favorite band and all I want to do is listen to them... after 15 years of listening. Billy owns the stage and treats his guitar like his bitch - he's a bad ass talented musician and should be appreciated. The musicianship and all around talent they've got on this tour was so great to see and just solidified why I've always loved them - because they kick ass! If fans walked out or didn't like the set list, then I agree with Billy and I didn't want to be around those people at his shows either. No one I saw was disappointed. My jaw was dropped the entire show, as were my husband & best friends - and that's a rarity. My new favorite Smashing Pumpkins is the band that just goes fucking crazy up there. Billy & Jimmy are truly talented and with Ginger & the rest they have a great band around them. I'd go see them again in a heartbeat.Billy, as long as you keep on doing exactly what you want to do and putting that out there for your real fans, I'll always love you :) No one wants a bunch of sunshine when they can have your gritty angsty hotness. Come back to SoCal soon!
