Smashing Pumpkins' drummer leaves band
Original member Jimmy Chamberlin moves on
The Smashing Pumpkins' frontman Billy Corgan announced today (March 20) that drummer Jimmy Chamberlin has left the band.
The singer did not give a reason for the departure of another original member from the band. In a statement issued today, Corgan simply said, "Jimmy Chamberlin has left the group."
Chamberlin joined the band when it was formed in 1988 and played drums on all of the band's albums except 1998's 'Adore'.
His departure comes despite his claims last year that "we will write and record until we are dead".
Corgan said that he plans to continue recording under the name The Smashing Pumpkins, despite being the band's only remaining original member. He intends to head into the recording studio later this spring.
