Snoop Dogg allowed back into Australia for tour Snoop Dogg Tickets
Ban is lifted on the rapper for October and November trip
Snoop Dogg has been granted a visa to tour Australia next month, after the Australian Department of Immigration fully lifted a ban on the rapper.
As previously reported on NME.COM, Snoop Dogg – whose real name is Calvin Broadus - was denied entry to the country by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship, based on his numerous drug and weapons offences.
Despite touring down under a number of times between 1998 and 2007, the rapper was deemed to have 'failed a character test' and was unable to attend and co-host the MTV Australian Video Music Awards in April 2007.
He was then granted a provisional visa last month, but the tour was again put on hold after complaints from members of the public.
While waiting for a decision to be handed down yesterday, it was revealed Hollywood A-Lister Russell Crowe had also weighed into the ongoing debate, writing an impassioned plea to the Australian Government and citing the rapper's "stellar reputation" with fans, charity work and previous "positive" Australian tours.
Announcing the results of the "full character assessment" of Snoop Dogg today, a spokesperson for the DIAC said the rapper had agreed to meet with at-risk youth as a form of charity work during his tour.
"We took into account all relevant factors and, on balance, the department decided to grant the visa." the spokesperson said. "Calvin Broadus will need to abide by Australia's laws and he will be formally counselled before his arrival about his visa conditions and our expectations relating to his conduct."
The West Coast Originals Australian Tour - which will also feature Ice Cube and Bones Thugs n Harmony - will begin in Brisbane on October 29. Tickets go onsale September 17.
