Snoop Dogg to star in 'blues pimp' biopic

Rapper cast in 'The Legend of Fillmore Slim'

Snoop Dogg to star in 'blues pimp' biopic
Snoop Dogg has been cast in The Legend of Fillmore Slim, a biopic about the blues singer and guitarist.

The film will follow Slim's career throughout the sixties and seventies, from his time as a guitarist, to working as a well-known pimp in San Francisco.

"This film will span decades," co-producer Alan Ames told Deadline. "From Slim's emergence as a musician, to his fascination with the fast life, through his years of incarceration and his redemption."

The film is to be directed by Hawthorne James with pre-production to begin in December.

Having previously appeared in Training Day, the US hip-hop star is set to further his foray into the acting world with a family sitcom also in the works.

Currently in talks with Warner Bros, the rapper is set to play the patriarch of a family in a new comedy drama series. The as-yet-untitled show is to be produced by veteran Don Reo.

This won't be Snoop's first appearance on the small screen - he previously starred in his own reality show Snoop Dogg's Father Hood on entertainment channel E! in 2008.

The move follows Snoop's plans to launch his own X Factor'-style talent search.
