Snoop Dogg is to star in a new family sitcom, playing a father.

Deadline report that the rapper is on board for the as-yet-untitled NBC project, which is to be written by sitcom veteran Don Reo.

Reo has penned episodes of the massively successful Two And A Half Men, plus Everybody Hates Chris, Blossom, MASH and The Golden Girls. He has previously worked with the rapper on the Fox sitcom Brothers.

Snoop, who will also have a producer's credit on the show, displayed his own particular sense of humour earlier this week (October 4) when he invited a retired Welsh farmer to his Cardiff show because he wanted to learn gardening secrets from the grower of the world's biggest swede.

The rapper has a wealth of credits in both film and television. His reality TV show Snoop Dogg's Father Hood documented life with his wife and three children, and he's had roles in films including Training Day and Starsky & Hutch, in which he landed the plum role of Huggy Bear. He was also recently cast as the lead in the biopic 'The Legend Of Fillmore Slim'.
