Snow Patrol
> and Franz Ferdinandwere the big winners in Ireland’s top music honours, the METEOR AWARDS, last night (February 24) in DUBLIN.

Belfast-born Snow Patrol picked up gongs for Best Irish band and Best Album, while Franz Ferdinand won for Best International Band and Best International Album.

"I think a lot of bands should go through a wee bit of a kicking before the make a success," Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody said after picking up the awards – referring to the long struggle his band have gone through before breaking big with the million-selling ‘Final Straw’. "It has been good for us, but also hard for us over the past six years."

In other categories, Morrissey

The 8,000 fans at the Point Depot to see the ceremony were treated to live performances from Snoop Dogg and [a][/a]featuring Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood.
