Gadget-owning fans will get a bunch of extra goodies

Snow Patrol are to pioneer a new interactive application for the iPhone and iPod Touch with their new album.

As previously reported, the band will release a new album, 'A Hundred Million Suns', this autumn.

The album will also be the first to utilise the multimedia capacities of iPhones, reports Music Week. Fans will be able to download the application and access bonus content including artwork, behind-the-scenes images and lyrics via the handset's touchscreen.

Snow Patrol's product manager Liz Goodwin told the trade paper: "It will be an interactive element; a digital booklet that will take you into the videos and content.

"For fans it will be a real must-have, and the fact that they are the first band to do this gives us an additional angle for exposure."

As long as the Apple separates itself from the rest of the mp3 takeover, they'll either slowly loose out or the music industry won't move forward. All they are doing is depriving fans. I don't even like Snow Patrol, but apple can take a walk.

what about all the people who can't afford those fancy iPhones then or don't want one? special vinyl releases or downloads are more than fine, even special packages, but the fact you have to own an iPhone is a bit ... pants.not that i would buy the album anyway ...

Why does every band releasing an album since Radioheads In Rainbows have to try something different. Wtf is wrong with ordinary CD formats, this makes hardcore fans withour an iphone feel like they're missing out!

well, I don't think I'm going to cancel my current mobile service, buy an iPhone, and sign a 2 year contract with AT&T just to be the first to get crumby alternative rock. psssh...what a crock.

??? What are you asshats on about? Where does it say that it will be an 'iPhone'-only release? Unless Snow Patrol would like to limited album sales to the 'hundreds' there's gonna be a CD available too...
