Snow Patrol hail Oasis and Elbow at V

Snow Patrol dedicated their set at V Festival in Staffordshire today (August 22) to Elbow and headliners Oasis as they drew one of the biggest crowds of the day so far to the V Stage.

The Northern Irish five-piece warmed up for the Gallagher brothers with a show packed with hits from their last three albums including 'Take Back The City', 'Chocolate' and 'Spitting Games'.

During the early part of their set singer Gary Lightbody dedicated 'Hands Open' to Elbow, who performed on the same stage earlier.

Later he drew the biggest crowd singalong of the day for their breakthrough hit 'Run' as the singer left the huge throng to sing the chorus while he strummed his guitar.

Speaking before the 2004 hit, he said: "I'd like to play a song that was written in a dark room in 2000. It is a pleasure to bring it out in the sun. Thanks for giving this song so much love over the years."

The singer received a similar response when he performed 2006 hit 'Chasing Cars' as the crowd sang every word to what proved to be the festival anthem.

Speaking ahead of the track, he said: "This is for you and for buying our records over the years and having the chance to play before the mighty Oasis. It doesn't get much better than this."

He was on jovial form throughout the performance, picking out members of the crowd and joking: "I can see a guy dressed up as a pig. Have you got swine flu? I wouldn't stand next to him."

The singer then spotted a crowd surfer down the front and quipped: "Let's hear it for the swimming crowd surfer."

Snow Patrol played:

'If There's A Rocket Tie Me To It'
'Chocolate'
'Hands Open'
'Spitting Games'
'How To Be Dead'
'Set The Fire To The Third Bar'
'Run'
'Shut Your Eyes'
'Chasing Cars'
'Crack The Shutters'
'Take Back the City'
'Open Your Eyes'
'Tiny Little Fractures'
'You’re All I Have'
