Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody announces solo plans
Frontman has formed two new bands and is heading into the studio
The singer/guitarist revealed that forthcoming albums for the two projects will be decidedly different from each other, with one being influenced by country music and the other a "crazy" electro record.
He told BBC Radio Scotland that he's recording both albums in America throughout January. Watch video footage of Lightbody speaking about his plans below.
"I'm in Portland, [Oregon], first week of January, with [new band] Tired Pony," he explained, adding that that group is made up of his wife Miriam Kaufman, producer Garrett 'Jacknife' Lee, Belle & Sebastian drummer Richard Coburn, Iain Archer and "two very special guests".
Twentyfourbit.com is stating that R.E.M's Peter Buck is one of the special guests set to feature on Tired Pony's album.
The electro project Lightbody is working on features just him and Lee and is "a lot more LCD Soundsystem", according to the singer.
"I'm just trying to get a handle on it," he explained of the project, which is called Listen…Tanks!. "[There are] three or four electro songs that we've got and then three or four of these kind of crazy acoustic things."
The singer confirmed that his solo outings don't necessarily mean Snow Patrol are taking time off.
"I'd like to keep reinventing it and keep it fresh," Lightbody said of his main band, adding that he still wants Snow Patrol to be a going concern in ten years' time.
