Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody has written songs with Harry Styles for One Direction's next album.

The frontman of the band confirmed he has sat down with Styles to work on songs he is hopeful will make the grade for the boyband's forthcoming third album, due for release later on this year. Speaking to The Sun about his writing session with Styles, Lightbody said: "We wrote with Harry. It was a lot of fun. He’s a real dude actually. We’ve no idea if those songs will make it yet, though. It’s a long process. It’s great to work with other people — it’s good to flex the muscle."

However, fans of One Direction should not fear Styles' solo writing session marks the beginning of a new lone career for the teenager. One Direction always work solo with writers and are doing the same for the new album," a source told the paper. "It saves time, which is so precious for a band under their pressures. The tracks Harry worked on with Gary are 100 per cent for the new One Direction album — and not a solo album."

Earlier this year it was revealed that Justin Young of The Vaccines has also written songs for the new One Direction album.
