Courteney Cox announces engagement to Snow Patrol's Johnny McDaid

Actress and keyboardist were introduced by Ed Sheeran

Former Friends actress Courteney Cox and Snow Patrol keyboardist Johnny McDaid have announced their engagement with a pair of simultaneous tweets.

Alongside the same selfie snap, Cox wrote "I'm engaged to him!", while McDaid wrote "I'm engaged to her!"

The couple have been dating since last November, after they were introduced to each other by Ed Sheeran, who shared a house with McDaid for a year. The singer-songwriter told OMG! Insider: "I wasn't allowed to talk about this, but they've gone public, so... I introduced Johnny to Courteney, they started dating and they're crazy about each other." Sheeran became friends with Cox after renting a beach house in California from her.

McDaid became friends with Sheeran after writing songs for him, having also penned songs for One Direction and Example. Snow Patrol are currently on a break for solo projects, but are expected to begin recording a new album at the end of 2014 to follow 2011's 'Fallen Empires'.

Cox married actor David Arquette in 1999, with their divorce finalised in May 2013 after a two-year separation. Since Friends, she has starred in four series of the sitcom Cougar Town as well as being reunited with her Friends co-star Lisa Kudrow in the sketch show Web Therapy.
