Sonic Youth are set to release a compilation album later this year.
’The Destroyed Room: B-sides and Rarities’, out on December 11, will feature rare tracks from vinyl singles, compilations and international releases as well as unreleased material.
The follow up to this year’s ’Rather Ripped’ studio album will also fulfil the band’s contract with their label Geffen, who they have been with since 1990.
Bassist Kim Gordon said the band would think twice before signing with Geffen again.
She said: “I don’t really think they want us to stay. They fired a few key people working on (’Rather Ripped’) a week before it came out, (including) our A&R person – he worked on our last record with us, and that was the first time we had an A&R person in five years, but we liked him. Also a marketing person who had really good ideas. So, I don’t know.”
Gordon also told Billboard that she wasn’t sure how this move away from Geffen would affect the expanded reissue of the band’s seminal 1988 album ’Daydream Nation’, which is currently in the planning stages.
