Former Sonic Youth singer Kim Gordon will star in the third season of the hit US sitcom Girls.

In an interview with Slate, Gordon was asked if she knew the creator of the show, Lena Dunham, and replied: "I'm actually on an episode [of Girls] next season." When asked if she knew Dunham's parents from their involvement in New York's art scene, she clarified: "Not really. I've just met her mom casually. But Jenni [Konner] I know, her executive producer." It is not known yet what role Gordon will play on the show, or when the episode will air.

Previously, Gordon and the rest of her former bandmates appeared on another US television show, Gossip Girl, to perform an acoustic version of their single 'Star Power'. She and Sonic Youth guitarist Thurston Moore announced they were separating after 27 years of marriage in October 2011, with Moore subsequently recording and releasing music with his new band Chelsea Moving Light.

Gordon, meanwhile, has recently been working on her Body/Head project with guitarist Bill Nace. Speaking about her future plans for music, meanwhile, Gordon said: "I don't have any desire to do something that sounds explicitly rock. Like I don't have a burning need to be a rock musician. I feel like I've taken that as far as I can take it, for me. As far as I can take it. But you know we might do more songs or covers or things. A hip-hop record. Yeah, I don't know."Body/Head's debut album, 'Coming Apart', will be released next week (September 10).

Season three of Girls is set to premiere on HBO in early 2014. Created, directed and written by Dunham, the show has been a major hit since it debuted last year (2012) and took home two prizes at this January's Golden Globe Awards: 'Best Television Series - Comedy or Musical' and 'Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series' - Comedy or Musical' for Dunham.
