The American band reveal details of their hotly anticipated third LP...

Sparklehorse have started work on their third studio album, collaborating with PJ Harvey and Tom Waits, and recording with producer DAVE FRIDMANN.

A message posted on Sparklehorse's website, www.sparklehorse.com, reveals that vocalist Mark Linkous and percussionist Scott Minor spent some of March in New York working on the follow-up to 1998's 'Good Morning Spider' with producer Fridmann , who has previously worked with Mercury Rev, Flaming Lips and Mogwai. Sparklehorse are quoted on their website as saying that Fridmann is: "the man these days" when it comes to production duties, adding that the collaboration is:"not just news, but goooood news".

In addition, the site reveals Tom Waits recorded with the band at the beginning of April in California, and PJ Harvey has also contributed guest vocals to the sessions.

The as-yet-untitled album will not be released until next year at the earliest, with Sparklehorse's UK spokesperson citing Autumn 2001 as a realistic release date.

Sparklehorse's next UK release will be the 'Distorted Ghost EP' on June 5 through Parlophone. The EP has been available in the US since last Autumn, but has only been available in the UK through import. The full tracklisting for the EP runs: 'Happy Man', 'Waiting For Nothing', 'Happy Place', 'My Yoke Is Heavy', 'Gasoline Horseys' and 'Happy Pig'.

PJ Harvey is currently in a UK studio recording the follow-up to 1998's 'Is This Desire?' album with long time drummer Rob Ellis, and Mick Harvey from The Bad Seeds.

Rumours that Harvey is to record with Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke have now been dismissed as "completely untrue" by his UK spokesperson.
