Stellastarr* rock the Troubadour

Stellastarr* rocked a packed house last night (February 7) at the Troubadour in west Hollywood.

During their hour-and-a-half-long set, the New York City quartet ran through crowd pleasers from their first two albums including 'No Weather', 'Jenny' and 'Sweet Troubled Soul'.

The band also tried out some new material, which got a warm reception from the sold-out crowd.

"We're gonna play you a new one with no title yet, but for now we're calling it 'Coming Down'," frontman Shawn Christensen told the audience before launching into an aggressive, guitar-driven number.

Fans young and old sang along throughout the show, erupting when the first strains of a familiar song became recognisable.

The band pulled out all the stops during their encore, which included one new tune and their hits 'My Coco' and 'Somewhere Across Forever'.

As previously reported, Stellastarr* recently parted ways with their record label, which meant that the funding for this tour came out of the band's own pockets.

"We're doing this tour on our own because we wanted to play out for our fans – that's what keeps us going," guitarist Michael Jurin told NME.COM after the show.

"We've been hanging out in our own little room writing for the past nine months, so we wanted to get out and feel the connection with the audience, and see whether the new material is working."

Judging from the crowd's reaction last night, the new material is working just fine.
