Stephen Malkmus unveils new band member

Sleater-Kinney’s Janet Weiss has joined Stephen Malkmus’s band The Jicks.

The drummer performed with ex-Pavement frontman Malkmus and The Jicks at Portland, Oregon’s annual ‘Affair At The Jupiter Hotel’ art fair on Friday (September 29), according to The Portland Mercury.

Malkmus’ UK label, Domino, confirmed to NME.COM that the drummer is playing with The Jicks, but whether her involvement is permanent or not is as yet unclear.

Weiss has previously performed with Malkmus at a London gig in 2003. From 1997 she drummed with Sleater-Kinney until the alt-rock trio who announced an indefinite hiatus in June this year.

The Jicks’ original drummer John Moen is now a full-time member of The Decemberists, who recently released their first album for major label Capitol, ‘The Crane Wife’.
