Stephen Malkmus begins work on album

Former Pavement star recording 'big' songs

Stephen Malkmus has begun work on his new album.

Working with his band The Jicks, the former Pavement frontman is currently recording the follow up to 2005’s ’Face The Truth’.

Posting on Stephenmalkmus.com he wrote: “Basic tracks for album committed to tape. Album track in Northern Montana- 67.4685% completed…Looks to be done sometime in late June.

“Apparently, the songs are so big that Matador is pushing for an early 2008 release. The world needs preparation, preparation, preparation H!!!”

The Jicks, who now include former Sleater-Kinney drummer Janet Weiss, and Malkmus will play the UK's Green Man festival on August 15.
