FLASH IN THE CAN: STEREO MC'S' NEW TRACK

STEREO MCs, still to deliver their follow up to 1992's 'Connected' album, release a single next month...

Stereo MC's are to release their first new original material in more than five years next month, a track called 'Flash'. The song was recorded earlier this year for the soundtrack of forthcoming movie The Avengers and has a laid-back, dub feel complete with strings, scratching and samples.

A Stereo MC's spokesman told NME the band were still recording the long-awaited follow-up to 1992's 'Connected' album. He said: "They are working hard recording the new album, but there's still no release date or title yet." The Avengers soundtrack is released on August 3. Other artists to contribute new material to the album include Roni Size, Babybird, Sinead O'Connor and Grace Jones. It also features a collaboration between Iggy Pop and Utah Saints.

The movie, starring Ralph Fiennes, Uma Thurman, Sean Connery, Shaun Ryder and Eddie Izzard, is released later this month.
