GOTTA GET THRU THIS BATTLE!

The Welsh rockers' Rod Stewart cover is close behind the current surprise Number One in the midweek chart...

DANIEL BEDINGFIELD is on course for a second week at Number One in the UK singles chart, despite a strong challenge from Stereophonics.

Their cover of Rod Stewart's 'Handbags And Gladrags' is currently the highest new entry at Number Two, according to midweek sales figures this morning (December 4).

The track is thought to have sold in the region of 11,400 copies following its release yesterday (December 3), short of this week's current Number One single, 'Gotta Get Thru This'. The song, sung by the relatively unknown Leeds UK Garage star Daniel Bedingfield, sold almost 20,000 in the same time period.

Other new releases this week look set to come from Sophie Ellis Bextor, whose track 'Murder On The Dancefloor' is at Number Four, Steps, who are at Number Five with 'Words Are Not Enough' and the Hermes House Band, who are at Number 10 with 'Country Roads'.
