WORD GETS AROUND

Kelly Jones says that the band will be on stage at the famous Irish castle...

STEREOPHONICS are in the frame to play a massive show at SLANE CASTLE in IRELAND, NME.COM has learned.

Speaking last week in London, singer Kelly Jones told NME.COM that in addition to their forthcoming headline slot at the V2002 festival in August, the band may play a huge show at the famous Irish castle.

He said: "We're doing the V2002 thing, and we're doing Slane Castle in Ireland. There might be a few other things, but nothing's been confirmed yet. And then that's it for this album."

A spokesperson for event promoters MCD said he couldn't confirm or deny the claim. He added that it wasn't clear if Slane would happen this summer, but that if it did, it would be on Bank Holiday weekend (August 24).

"We're talking to a lot of artists about it, as ever," he added.

Last year, U2 played an unprecedented two days at the 80,000 capacity Slane – over consecutive weekends – after intervention from the Irish government allowed strict licensing laws to be worked around.
