Stevie Wonder becomes United Nations Messenger of Peace
Musician set for official role to help those with disabilities
Stevie Wonder has been appointed a United Nations Messenger of Peace, with his specific mission to help the disabled, it has been announced today (December 3).
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said that the singer, who is blind, will take on the role because of his previous charity work and because of the admiration he receives worldwide, reports BBC News.
He said Wonder was "admired by millions of people and has given back to millions of people".
Wonder will become the 11th holder of the title. Those who hold the title already include actors Michael Douglas and George Clooney and author Paulo Coelho.
