Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody has declared that Super Furry Animals are "our generation's Beatles".

Lightbody told Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 1 that the Welsh band were a major inspiration for him, and part of the reason he played music.

"If Nirvana made me pick up a guitar, Super Furry Animals made me think about what I had say with it," he said. "I think they're our generation's Beatles.

"They mean an awful lot to me. They should be an absolutely giant massive band all around the world because they've made some of the best pop music ever."

There arenâ€™t many bands around as brilliant SFA. What a superb band, they have continued to release quality album after quality album. And I agree with WolfAmoungWolves on the Snow Patrol comment too!

i've always said that - our generation's Beatles. Very important band that makes, by and large, the most gorgeous rock songs in the world. SFA OK, indeed. Wish they'd get more recognition here in the States.

Super Furry Animals, god what an awful awful excuse for a band. Snow Patrol are great, the new single is fab. I bet you wish sinsybinsy that you wrote Chasing Cars, you'd be a god now!

Always thought the same myself, released some absolutely brilliant albums. Rings around the World, Geurilla being two of them.As for Snow Patrol, a very ordinary uninspiring band.The Artic Monkeys sound like George Formby on speed.

Soundedd, he probably has heard of Oasis and Arctic Monkeys but its completely irrelevant seeing as SFA are infinitely superior to both of them! And by the way, Snow Patrol are fucking wank!

To be honest it makes me really sad that shite like SFA are being compared to the greatest band there ever was. I would have personally said Oasis were the modern day Beatles. I admit Snow Patrol's music is middle aged mens rock, but I like it ;) Rubbersoul, SFA better than Oasis? I think you just picked that one out of the sky mate ;)
